My father purchased this taxi from the original owner / driver in June 1975. Over the ensuing years it was subject to extensive renovation, taking it from a usable, working cab to the pristine example that it is today. The vehicle was passed to me, the current owner when my Dad gave up driving a few years ago.Make:?Citroen?

This has been a toy of mine since the age of 2. My dad was given the car, that had been stripped at some point and was a chassis and the rest a mix packed in wooden crates, nothing labeled or catalogued, just a bunch of TC spares chucked into a bunch of boxes. He started the build in 1982, got a fair way along and then took a bit of a break as he needed to run us to sport and our weekend home on the river for a good number of years. I think half the reason for the break was me heading into the garage and ‘borrowing’ the tools he was using to play in the garden, bear in mind, this took place in a mining town 60 miles west of Johannesburg… When I got to about the age of 13 I started harassing him to get the TC finished, so my dad, gramps and I spent the next 3 years putting the car together. Of the 5000 odd miles that the car has done since we finished the restoration, I’ve driven about 3000 of them, a number that would have been significantly higher had the DVLA not been as obstructive as they were when I bought the car to the UK when we emigrated, which resulted in a 2 year fight to get an age related number, which it now wears with pride. I’ve left the old South African number plate on the back as an ode to my dad, and also, he made the backing plate to fit a South African number plate, so I recon I’ll leave it that way!!Make:?Chevrolet?

THIS WAS FIRST PURCHASED BY NIGEL’s DAD’s FAMILY IN 1936, AND WAS KEPT UNTIL THE LATE 1950’S. MY MUM DIDN’T LIKE IT AS IT WAS DRAUGHTY, AND AS DAD ALSO HAD A 3.4 LITRE JAGUAR SALOON THE LYNX HAD TO GO !!! WHEN IN 1962, I SUGGESTED TO DAD IF WE COULD FIND A MG TA OR TB TWO SEATER SPORTS CAR, HE DID NO MORE THAN TRACE HIS OLD RILEY BACK TO A SCRAP YARD. THIS BECAME NIGEL’s FIRST CAR WHICH NIGEL KEPT ON THE ROAD TILL LATE 1960s WHEN HE BLEW IT UP !!!Make:?Morris?

The car is fitted with hydraulic breaks and Lucas electric fuel pump an windscreen wipers. it has a three speed gearbox with synchromesh on second and third, all very advanced features for a production car of this period. The top speed is 55 mph but with respect to its age I keep down to around 45, so it is not a car for racing but you do get to enjoy the scenery! I use the car on a regular basis in summer and winter, it's not just kept in the garage to look at, so in the interest of health and safety I have upgraded it with features the purists would fin abhorrent, including conversion from the original 6 volt system to 12 volt and electronic ignition to improve reliability, and fitting LED bulbs to improve advisability after dark. The original price for the car was £135 with bumpers and trafficators optional extras at £2. 10 shillings The average wage at the time was £150 pa. Of the 164,102 series 1 cars built only 24000 were two or four seat Tourers ,Make:?Ford?
