This has been a toy of mine since the age of 2. My dad was given the car, that had been stripped at some point and was a chassis and the rest a mix packed in wooden crates, nothing labeled or catalogued, just a bunch of TC spares chucked into a bunch of boxes. He started the build in 1982, got a fair way along and then took a bit of a break as he needed to run us to sport and our weekend home on the river for a good number of years. I think half the reason for the break was me heading into the garage and ‘borrowing’ the tools he was using to play in the garden, bear in mind, this took place in a mining town 60 miles west of Johannesburg… When I got to about the age of 13 I started harassing him to get the TC finished, so my dad, gramps and I spent the next 3 years putting the car together. Of the 5000 odd miles that the car has done since we finished the restoration, I’ve driven about 3000 of them, a number that would have been significantly higher had the DVLA not been as obstructive as they were when I bought the car to the UK when we emigrated, which resulted in a 2 year fight to get an age related number, which it now wears with pride. I’ve left the old South African number plate on the back as an ode to my dad, and also, he made the backing plate to fit a South African number plate, so I recon I’ll leave it that way!!Make: Triumph
